At CSIS, our goal is to ensure that safety becomes a mindset and not just a word within the workplace.

Stephen Cunningham started work as an apprentice enginesmith /chainsmith gaining experience throughout the last 30 years in the manufacturing of chains, anchors, welding, and general smithing, working and gaining experience in a variety of industries such as construction, marine, mining, rigging, roofing, and transport, focusing in the last 10 years on height safety and rescue. 

Stephen saw a need in the market for quality products, specialist services and training and established Cairns Safety & Industrial Supplies ("CSIS")  in April 2009, gaining Registered Training Organisation Status (RTO 32232) in May 2010.

  • Our courses offer a mix of theory and practical and are geared for student interaction so that you get maximum benefit of the course content.
  • We can hold the training sessions on your site or at our Training Centre at 1/61 Hargreaves Street, Edmonton, depending on your requirements.  

    Our courses are accredited training programs and offer Units of Competency that are in line with National Training Packages that meet the Australian Quality Training   Framework 2007 (AQTF 2007) standards.

RII20109       Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation - the following units are offered in partial completion of this qualification and are issued with a Statement of Attainment:-

  • RIIOHS202A Enter and Work in Confined Spaces
  • RIIOHS204A Work Safely at Heights

 

RIIOHS202A    Enter and Work in Confined Spaces

Working in confined spaces is a high-risk activity and has been responsible for many work-related deaths. Legislation requires that all persons with work activities related to confined space/s must undertake appropriate training and be assessed as competent, to perform those activities in accordance with AS2865 Safe Working in a Confined Space  

 

Target  Audience

Supervisors and others responsible for confined space work as well as those who work in confined spaces or assist those who work in confined spaces, gas test atmospheres or operate breathing apparatus.

Entry Requirements

  • Participants should have sufficient literacy and numeracy to read and comprehend instructions for safety at the workplace.
  • Participants will need sufficient physical ability to attend for the full duration of the course and lift up to 20kg infrequently from ground to overhead and access heights above 2m.

 Course Requirements:

  • CSIS will provide each trainee with a training guide and assessment materials.
  • Participants must provide photographic identification and wear appropriate safety clothing including long sleeved shirt, trousers, safety boots, helmet, glasses and gloves.
  • If possible participants are advised to attend with their own safety harness.
  • CSIS will provide training site and equipment as required

  • Workplace Hazards & Safe Work Procedures
  • Risk Assessment & Documentation
  • Confined Space Entry Permits
  • Confined Space Equipment, using CF harnesses, tripods and VED devices
  • Atmospheric Hazards & the use of Gas Detection Equipment, Breathing Apparatus and the practical use of SCBA
  • Review of First Aid, Life Support and Fire Fighting Procedures
  • Confined Space Emergency Procedures and Rescue Drills 

Course Outcome:

Upon completion students should be able to:

  • Enter confined space
  • Work safely in a confined space
  • Gas test atmospheres
  • Work in accordance with an issued permit
  • Operate breathing apparatus.

Certificate of Accreditation

All successful applications will be provided with a Certificate of Accreditation.

Morning & Afternoon Tea Provided

  • Snack bar within 5 mins walk for lunches
  • Coffee, Tea and Water facilities available throughout the course.

 RIIOHS204A    Work Safely at Heights 

This Training Course covers risk assessment, selection and correct use of equipment installation of anchors, fall restraint, work positioning and fall arrest systems and includs a practical traiing component which will assts you to develop your work method and risk assessment for working at heights.
